This is what the reason way .. 6 wires were burnt and 4 of those were melted together .

I'm sure my car isn't the only one to do that ...

question # 2 now ... coolant light on .. coolant is topped off ... in hood looks like dried up coolant on the expansion tank

Wow good find there just make sure to cut out all the burnt wiring. Now the dried up coolant could be from a cracked expansion tank or a bad coolant cap but you wouldn't know unless you pressurized the cooling system if that passed I would pressurize the cap to make sure it's good

Ok .. Bmw emailed me back
Apparently the wiring recall was done but not the airbag recall driver & pass.
What's involved in that ??

Not much is involved. Call and make sure the dealer has the required parts and then schedule an appointment. I did mine one at a time. Once they wanted to replace the OFHG and VCG. The second visit they didn't find anything. I have heard of people being told a lot of work is needed. Maybe it was needed and maybe it wasn't.
