The 18 x 8.5 Hamann HM2 has a 38mm offset and the Breyton Vision 18 x 8.5 has a 42mm offset . . .

Which of these wheels are going to stick out more ?
In other words, will the Vision come out from the car further then the Hamann or vica-versa ?

Also, if the wheel is the same exact size and the offset's are different, how come both manufacturers specify this as an E46 wheel ?

Wouldn't the offset have to be the same for it to properly fit the car ?

Thanks for any advice you can offer . . .

The lower the offset number the farther they will stick out. There are many different offsets that will work, thay may be why they specify it as an E46 wheel. You have to be careful w/ offsets and widths b/c you can run into rub problems really easily.

Correct,

Why does the manufactures label the rims as E46 ? - because the excact same rim are made for both 5 & 7 series - but these series uses a very different offset - much lower than on the E46.

If you place an E46 rim on lets say an E39 - would you beed needing a spacer kit - because the offset is higher on the E46 rims - and placed on an E39 - would the rims be placed way in the wing.

The other way around placing a E39 rim on a E46 would cause problems, as the rim due to the reduced offset would case fender rub - in worst case stick out.

Rule of thumb - never place a " 3 series rim on a 5'r or 7'r" and vice versa.
