Hi,
I've got a 2001 325i auto and a 2005 320d M Sport parked next to each other.
Yesterday morning I went to get something out of the 325 but it wouldn't respond to the key remote, I tried the spare key and that didn't work either. I tried unlock/lock and boot release on both keys but the car did not respond at all.

Out of curiosity I tried the 320d and that was dead too, both keys.

Both cars are driven regularly and were used the night before with all keys working fine.

After scratching my head and looking through the manual I decided to try again and they were both still dead. I went indoors for a drink then tried again and both cars worked?

I've had both cars together for about 8 months and this is the first time this has happened. hopefully the bloody last too!

I was wondering if this might be someone with a jammer or key cloner?
Any ideas?

This used to happen to my E39. Except mine used to only do it at this mall I used to go to. Years later I found out there was a radio station tower right across the street.

Unlikely the same frequency between the tower and my remote, but certainly "loud" enough to drown out my key signal. If I walked up to the car (within 3 feet) it opened.

Wireless networks are interfering. If you look for transmitters, you'll be surprised how many of them there are.

There are maybe 15-20 wifi's going on around me and regularly forks up my wireless keyboard. This was responsible for some of my typing errors at least.

I know you are trolling, but our remotes run ~315Mhz. WiFi APs run at 2.4Ghz. They will not interfere.

I know the new police communications equipment block the signal to some older Subaru remotes and immobilisers. If there is a main police station or a radio mast that could be the cause.
Looking at this, I am betting that is/was the case here too.

Thanks for the replies. Both cars were parked outside my house on the drive where they're always kept.

I didn't mix up the keys, even if I did the cars were parked next to each other so at least one of them would have opened.
It can't be a mast as that wouldn't explain why both cars were dead for only about 20-30min.

I'm going for the flux capicitor so far.

+1

Make sure it is properly shielded.

Edit: Just noticed you are in the UK. Ignore the link I posted since that doesn't apply to you.
