can I put 17x7.5 type 68s(front ones) on rears too? I like these rims but I'd like to be able to rotate. 225/44/17 is wide enough for me

You may have more grip with fatter tires on the back, but you also have more understeer.

Hence, the car WILL handle better with narrower rims in back. The E46 just doesn't have nearly enough power to make staggered tires necessary.

It's for looks. Speed Touring Cars don't run staggered tires either. Only the more powerful GT cars do.
