More Aux Input Info (Kinda)
I received the following from my dealer today:
Good morning,
This is in response to your request regarding aux. input for an E46
325, 2003.
My name is Steve and I am one of the BMW techs in the shop. I
researched it and found out that on production of 9-02 and later cars that a kit
will be available soon. It is something that we or another BMW retailer
will have to insall.
I don't have a more specific time frame other than about 2-3 months it
will come to market. The person I was speaking to at tech line said
that Engineering has been testing the different devices and locations in
the cars. He made mention that he had seen what appears to be the final
location of the input and it looks like it will be in the ashtray area.
He said that devices like MP3 players, mini disc players, and basically
any device that uses the small style of "headphone jack" with voltage
up to 4 volts will be able to plug in.

that plugs to the rear of the head unit. Please contact the Parts Department to inquire about purchasing the accessory cable.
After contacting the parts department, they had not heard of it. I had heard rumors of it being available mid-December, but both dealerships I spoke to say they have not heard anything. If anyone gets a part number and pricing information, please let us know

I talked to my dealer and he said he doesn't know when the part will become available but he was pretty sure it doesn't work on '02s -- I was bummed myself.
If you really want an aux input on an '02 or earlier, you either have to buy a Blitzsafe or Soundgate adapter or tap into the cassette leads on the back of the headunit (a very inelegant solution, but it works).
