      Best way to know if it's the Hood Sensor. When it isn't plugged in, the alarm believes the hood is closed. I replaced mine earlier this year for this same reason. It's just another common E46 failure prone part. Not an expensive part to replace either.

      I'd bet $5 it's the Hood Sensor. Unplug it to confirm. Replacement cost is $27.

      That was what it was on my Cabriolet. Been fine since I replaced it with a new one. You can confirm this by unplugging the sensor. The alarm will then be tricked into sensing that the hood is always closed.
