My Ride: My buddies 350hp
Bought at 129k miles. Still runs strong. Currently at 140k miles.

Replaced:
  • Valve cover gasket (was leaking onto header causing burning oil smell)
  • Spark plugs (did at same time with valve cover gasket)
  • Wheels (they were bent & vibrating)
  • Wiper cowl (seal against the glass was deteriorated)
  • Fuel pump filter (left me stranded at gas station lol)
  • Driver midrange speaker (trim ring cracked & it was falling into the door)
  • Driver kick panel/dead pedal (was cracked by previous owner)
  • Both front window regulators

Stuff it still needs:
  • Oil pan gasket (already have)
  • Oil filter housing gasket (already have)
  • Cooling system overhaul (just ordered everything Friday)
  • Tie rods
  • Control arms
  • Steering guibo
  • Trailing arm bushings
  • Final stage resistor goes a little haywire sometimes

I'm sure there's more. I knew was I was getting into. Its a $5,000 car what can one expect? It's an old car but it looks nearly perfect so I don't mind all the work.

I don't have high mileage but I have a ton of problems. I'm at 103k

-Reverse went out on auto transmission at about 70k
-Replaced 3 window regulators
-Radiator blew at 95k
-New thermostat
-Radiator hose just blew last night
-Control arm bushings were completely blown at 100k
-Transmission problems are starting. Doesn't want to drive in Drive sometimes.

There's more but I just can't remember. This is my first and last automatic BMW. I hate myself every day for not getting a manual.

Just rolled over 210,000 in my 323i. Did the worst DIY this weekend, had to change the starter. Beyond that I have replaced the following:

Alternator
Cam Sensor
Idler Pulleys
Thermastat

and the normal wear and tear items.

Can't complain, it has been a great car.

Everything you listed is absolutely normal and expected to be needed on a 100k car. The tranny is the only thing on the list that's at all serious.

164,000 miles......had an oil service today....no leaks

will need a new set of tires this winter if it rains

Waiting for BMW to start building the E46 again...Makes sense to me that they would bring it back.

Still running strong. Third owner.

Doing VANOS seals to restore lost power whenever the weather cools down.
