Cross threaded a transmission bell housing bolt

After installing my new clutch, I crossthreaded a bell housing to engine block bolt. Anyone have a similar problem and have a suggestion?

I wouldn't do it, but I've seen guys use small c clamps used in place of broken trans bolts

Can you remove the bolt? Go to www.realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of your car’s VIN. Hit enter and bookmark the page. Scroll down to manual transmission. You’ll find the part # and the specs for the bolt. Go to your local HD or Lowe’s and buy a tap that matches the bolt’s specs. Clean out the hole using a vacuum cleaner and oil soaked q-tips. Then spray some oil into the hole and slowly run the tap into the hole. If you’re lucky the hole will hold the new bolts

Problem is the bolt is incredible difficult to get to and I really don't want to drop the transmission again. Ever tried filing down the end of the bolt and making a "self taping" bolt out of it?

Update for anyone interested I bought a new bolt, filed down the last few threads and cut a slit down the end to act as a self taping bolt. Will update if this works
