What year and model of car are you doing this on?

Check the following:

1. Are all the pins on the ews chip nice and clean?
2. Id the chip reader connector oriented correctly?
3. Is the transponder the correct one, and is it actually in the key?
4. Problem reading new or original key?

Is the connector sitting squarely and solidly on the chip? It doesn't take much for the connector to slip off the chip. I suggest you place a rubber band on it and then around the board to hold it securely in place.
