316i LCI Suspension rattle and steering wheel vibration

First off: My steering wheel vibrates when going over bumps, belgian pavé and when it's cold and when it idles around 1100rpm. I have new tyres and had my alignment done and it went away for a while but it is back. I haven't hit any major potholes nor curbs. The vibrating and thudding noise goes away when I hold the wheel tight. When I budge it up and down I feel a bit of play.

Could this be a loose steering rack and/or loose steering wheel?

Next up: When going over bumps I hear this slightly high pitched rattle (as if you're rattling your keys but slightly higher pitched than that) on the rear right side of the car. I've seen my shocks recently and besides them being a little rusty they are fine but after 110k miles I think it's time to get them changed. Can I be sure that it's the shock absorber and not something else?

I gave a detailed description of my issues and this is an E46 forum so naturally if I'm talking about a 316i LCI it means an E46 316i Facelifted version (2002-2005). But if you want more information: N42B18A engine, non M-Pack so basically standard suspension and brakes. Has done 176322KM's (roughly 110k miles).

That'll do.

Some possibilities.

Worn tie rod ball joints.
Damaged steering column flexi coupling guibo.
Front control arm ball joints or bushes.
Worn lower strut bushes.
Worn anti roll bar links.

BTW. 316i LCI isn't a detailed description. There are 6 variants if I am not mistaken and LCI isn't normally listed as a distinguishing feature.

I think you mean bushings when you write bushes.

No. I meant "bushes". The terms are interchangable btw. But I prefer to use the word "bushes" because it reminds me of hot summer days cycling down rural lanes lined with green bushes and hegderows that are filled with the glory of nature's diverse flora and fauna. I just don't get that with "bushings". Know what i mean?

Why the f*** would you post something so pointless and dumb?
