How often do you change your oil?

I usually own Hondas or Toyotas engines last forever. With this BMW I'll definitely change the oil changes frequently.

Curious how many miles it has and have you ever had the value cover off or the engine apart? If so do you see any heavy varnish on the parts.

I picked my 330Ci used and the previous owner kept up on the oil changes but let a couple go a longer than 10k miles. I plan on pulling the valve cover off.
Thx.

The factory interval is over 15K, I do mine at about half that, sometimes with a filter change in between. This is what it looked like at 140K.

Doesn't do any good to post a video that can't be watched.

Sorry about the video, I think it was pulled, probably because of the music I used , copyright and all.

The varnish and built up is too bad for 140k miles.

I had an 05 F150 that had a cam phaser issue, 100k miles. The inside of the engine was very clean. The extra oil changes didn't prevent the cam phaser from failing. But the internals of the engine looked clean.
A faulty cam phaser design killed me.

Meant to say that the varnish and build up is Not to bad for 140k miles.

Oil and filter, every 10K miles or annually (whichever comes first). Usually it means changing the oil once a year (with about 7 - 8 K miles on it). Mobil 1 full synthetic, of course. Same with air filter, cabin filter, etc.

My OCI is between 3-5K, but I'm one of those weirdos who actually enjoys changing his car's oil.

Every 8,000. I don't drive very far to work so that's about 10 months to a year. I change the filter at 4,000 and top off oil.

I go about 7,500. Filter at the same time, every time. I'm due for a cabin air filter and probably an engine air filter. Maybe after I get the coolant leak fixed in the other car.

I have a weirdo friend, back in high school, we rebuild his 68 Olds 442. After 100k miles we pulled it apart and it looked like new inside.
My brother in-laws races 1/2 mile dirt track and changes it after every race.

I'm with you 3 to 5k miles.

I also like the idea that was mentioned about changing the filter mid 10k oil change. It's the particles in the oil that wear parts.

Great idea! Filter change at 4k. The new synthetic oil doesn't break down as fast as conventional but the particles in the oil will wear engine parts.

I change the oil every 5K miles along with the filter. Some folks have mentioned to me it's probably overkill. However, it's easy for me to remember.

7,500 miles. My engine was extremely clean when I opened it up.

Note- I use Rotella that has detergents in it.

I've had the valve cover off a few times, around 100k, 130k, and most recently 170k. I'm currently at 173k and it looked no different than the first time I was in there. No sludge on anything, everything is the typical bronze/gold color. Engine runs smooth.

15,000 with an LL-01 oil. My engine looks lovely inside. I have pics somewhere around I won't be able to find, but I'll look.

Got the car with 140,000 in '06 and slowly increased my oci until it's been 1/year for the last 6-8 years. It's fine still at 385,000

Now you guys are making me think I'm a car abuser.

jmo69 posted a picture of his internal engine. It has a decent varnish on it, not much sludge.

Synthetic oil does a better job preventing sludge. Some vehicle makes have a reputation for creating sludge. I had a 70 Duster and a 70 Challenger back in the 80s, both created a lot of sludge. I also used conventional oil and was not diligent changing the oil.

It looks BMWs don't have a reputation for creating sludge?

Does anyone have any pictures with 100k + miles?
