E46 best car ever made?

Do you think e46 model is one of the best cars ever made? Will BMW ever consider build it again in future years?

The E46 was a phenominal car, in its time. It was clear cut superior to its competition, but it doesn't hold a candle to newer cars. I don't really love the new 3 series (I strongly feel the ATS is the better car, I've driven both), but it's better than our cars in every measurable performance metric, it's more comfortable, spacious, etc. It'll turn harder, brake faster, accelerate quicker, the whole nine. For its time, it was a great, great car. It just depends on if you mean objectively best, or best for its time.

And no, BMW is not ever going to start reproducing ANY old model. Is Ford going to resume production of the original Boss 302? Will Dodge build new Challenger Daytonas? Of course not. Nobody resumes production of their old cars.

That's true. Best of its time. When it was designed, it had to deal with many tech's limitations compare to today's. So imagine all those improvements of newer cars inside/adapted in/to our cars! There are other car makers that took nice older designs back to production, just because a special edition or just because it created a lot of goodiees that can give more dividends.

Six cylinder in line engine with timing chains, a transmission bolted to the back and rear wheel drive. Hardly a break through in automotive design but beautifully engineered to last a long time. Possibly not the best car but I'm 69 and have a 2002 325i wagon with 128k miles and I'm hoping I'll never have to buy another car!

I don't think it's the best car ever (that's a very hard question to answer) but I do think it was the best 3 series bmw has made. It's reliable, easy diy, looks and performs pretty good (even for its age). I think it's in the perfect balance of electrical vs mechanical.

Like others have mentioned, newer cars are better in every measurable aspect, speed, braking, comfort, safety, etc

But what i find the e46 has is just that perfect feel to it, not sure how to explain without seeming like a dumb a.....

But out of all the bmw's i had the previlege to drive, to me atleast there is just a feel of it i am in love with

As James May put it "its the phizzzzz" and thats about all i can say

the e30 is more fun to drive. the f30 is more comfortable.
the e46 was a pretty fantastic combination of the two. i still think the interior is pretty amazingly designed. so analog and easy to understand. it's like coming home even if you've never driven the car.

best bmw ever made? probably not. but it's a really great one compared to even the new ones. not everything can be measured in numbers. the e30 is slow. small. unsafe. tail happy. but crap that car has soul.

Honestly, I think the E39 M-Sport/M5 is the best BMW ever made. They came with minimal problems from the factory, had a bulletproof V8s, handled like a dream, and never had paint or rust issues. The build/material quality and frame rigidity was outstanding too compared to the previous E34 and newer E60.

The E46 is a very fun, well rounded car. But with sub-frame, build quality, paint, rubber bushing, and rust problems out of the factory, it was far from perfect.

I'd definitely put the E39 M5 above the E46.
