Adaptive headlight coding?

I had some water get in my headlight and zap my ballast (already fixed) and the adaptive control unit (blinking green light started blinking at the same time). I have been basically ignoring it based on cost of a new acl and coding. I just stumbled across a comment on another thread that if you swap in a used unit from the same side, no programming is needed. Anyone else heard this or can actually confirm this would work?
