What is this hose?

I am losing a little oil and getting the burnt oil smell after driving. The PO replaced the VCG about 10K miles ago, but since that seems to be the most common issue, I decided to inspect for oil leaks and check the torque on the bolts.

I couldn't find any VCG leaks, but I see a cracked hose running along the intake manifold. Please help identify this hose in the first pic.

In the 2nd pic, you can see a little oil mucking up the Vanos line, but it doesn't look like much. Can a little bit here cause the smell too?

I really don't see much, so other suggestions are welcome

Thanks!

The hose you have pointed to in the first picture is part of the CCV (Oil Separator) System. The CCV can leak oil over time, especially at the lower hoses of the unit.

Number 7 in the diagram (Note that the diagram may look a little bit different with the hose clamp on one end as it shows the early model hose, most CCV's I've seen have a snap fit connection there.)

Thanks guys - I found that diagram on RealOEM, but it looks nothing like that. After your help and seeing some better pictures, that is definitely it. But I have more newbie questions...

Is this hose covered in an insulation (sort of like plumbing pipe insulation)? After doing more searching, I am wondering if just the insulation is cracked. I don't see any leaks around here and don't have any other issues with the CCV. That seems to be a royal PIA to replace, so I don't want to get into that unless I need to.

I am getting a check gas cap warning (small leak) that I am trying to track down, but I don't see how this could be related either.

Yes, the hose is wrapped in insulation.
