Windshield Wipers

I took the tightly fitted wipers off to replace with three different brands of non-oem wipers autozone and walmart and noticed that the fit of the replacement wipers was a very loose feeling. Are the J-hooks on BMWs different than the standard J-Hooks or something?

the OEM ones have little locks that hold them in place, hence the tighter feel.

the replacements i purchased have locks too. It sees like the curvature of the "J" is too wide on the bmws. No biggie, was just wondering if anyone else noticed.

I need to replace mine too. They look brand new, but chatter like HELL when it is raining, no matter how hard it is raining.

Why do people get non-oem replacements?

You realize that the little rubber strips on the wipers are replacable? Old ones slide out and new ones in. They are like $10 from the dealer for both sides! You could get three replacements for the same price as other wiper blades.

Edit: They cut to fit. Not that big of a deal but, it keeps costs down.

I got a set of OEM replacement inserts for like $10, but they are cut to fit--- I thought that was a bit strange....

I like the Valeo Ultimate wipers I recently got from Tirerack. Their still running a buy on get one free deal. Got them for $27 shipped. Not a bad price for something that works great.

Just replace the rubber strips on my 2002 E46. $5.70/pr from Circle BMW in NJ. Yeah, I had to cut them down to fit, but no big deal and they work just fine here in southern FL

So, 2001bmw330 and e34werkz, what do you guys think of the wipers that you have. Is it worth the extra cost to get either the Icon or the valeo wipers? And if so, which ones are better?

Bosch claims that the Icons last 20% longer, w/e that means, and Valeo claims that theres last about 3 years.

And has anybody tried out the Rain-x wipers? Btw do these thinner blades start rattling when you're going at higher speeds, say 100+?
