The V12 Benz Thread

To avoid taking over other threads, I am creating this one for us to discuss these wonderful, classic and nowadays cheap to buy V12 Benz's.

A few photos of my old one. Damn I miss that car sometimes.

The M120 (ranging in stock form to a fully built 7.3L savage) is what the Zonda used throughout its life, which says something about the engineering and build quality of that engine.

Here's one with generic Magnaflow cats and muffler:

Gawd, the music of V12s!

Only after every bloody car is powered by a ubiquitous 2.0 turbo four blatter will we fully appreciate what we've lost.

One of my favorite cars growing up!

Here is what Harry thinks about that M120 in the SL600. I honestly never knew they were so reliable and so well made.

So OP, how big a nightmare was it to own an old German V12?

Car looks awesome, was it worth it? Why did you sell it?

I'm a big fan of the E31 and could see myself buying and rebuilding one. That said, the M120 is a superior V12 in just about every way.

I really wish the R129 came as a coupe as well. That would have been very fun.

Thank you! It wasn't that bad, to be honest. The cats going and some sensors here and there were the biggest issues. The hydraulic mechanism in the soft top started leaking the day I got rid of it.

Definitely worth it and I would do it again. I got rid of it because at the time finances needed to be re-prioritized and I needed something new and under warranty to drive daily.

An e38 750il would be ideal for me, I like big sedans.

thing sounds like an Indy car. The vid makes it look like it's making a lot of noise for not going very fast though.

Why bother? I enjoy these discussions taking over other pointless threads. I'm going to start trying my hardest to inject V12 Benz discussions into lots of threads now.

Also, why would you sell a car like that OP? I would have stored it for you if that was the issue. Given driving privileges that is.

Phase one of the plan is underway. I put the Harley up on craigslist (shameless plug http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...933284688.html), the wife's bike will go up next (she likes to ride, but prefers to be the passenger).

After those are done, I'll have the cash in hand to go buy a car

I'm sorry, did I accidentally wander into the V8 benz thread? Is that why you were asking?
