Talk about an OLD thread. Started before my 2004 was even sold new...

How long? No idea. We are the third owners. The second owners sold it because the woman's friends could no longer get in and out of it easily. This was supposed to be my wife's car, but not long after we bought it she started having difficulty getting in and out so we traded. Now she drives my Durango. She has new hips now, but the BMW is still difficult for her to get out of. We have no plans on selling it, but you never know...

As for why we bought it. I'm a convertible guy. We have two others (1967 Barracuda and 1968 Dart GTS). When my wife had an unintended acceleration accident in her 2002 Sebring Limited convertible I gave her a choice, another convertible or a modern 40 mpg sedan. Without hesitation she said, "another convertible." For price and performance, the 330ci came out on top of the choices (I suggested that we look at Mustangs and Camaros - she said NO!). She's probably a keeper (May 1, 2020 will be 38 years married).

My e46 owner days could be numbered, if I get the hard downshift to first when the trans is cold sorted out I have someone that will buy it. If I'm lucky a reflash might fix it. I'm getting too old to keep doing the maintenance and the tinworm is slowly eating it up. I'll still have my e36 but someone else wants that but no money. I'll miss the xi AWD w/snow tires and have to settle for the 4 Motion in my Golf Alltrack w/all seasons (I know, no comparison).

actually , she's a keeper for me , I bought her on good price , prices aren't going to go up yet , but even if they did where I am going to find a beautiful manual coupe with a naturally aspirated engine that isnt a 4 cylinder ?

The 330 breezed past 200K miles earlier this year and I am working towards that 300K mile target now. Almost got rid of it recently, but things changed and it is back to being my daily driver/winter vehicle. Looking forward to a few upgrades in the works.

The 325 (bought with 135K miles and brought to 205K miles) has been sold. Great workhorse but an opportunity came up to help someone who needed a car and freeing up some room on my end with regard to vehicles was also nice.

I almost got rid of mine today actually! I've had it since March so just about 9 months and I told myself I was going to keep my 04 330ci for at least a few years... but the want of AWD for my 35-40 trips to Baker, Stevens, White Pass and other west coast mountain resorts has me looking at Inifiniti FX45's. I will get one in the next few months but I wasn't sure what I was gonna do with the E46. We don't need 3 cars living in Seattle and I'd really like to get an E60 535 sport anyway, and the trade-in value is a joke so I'm going to sell it.

My Ride: 04 325i "Aura"
Model: m54b30 Zhp swap

At this point I'm keeping her. After the swap she feels like a whole new car. I'll be putting less miles on her since I'm getting my "parts car" goin' and whenever I get a newer daily, I would most likely turn her (Aura) into a track/weekend car, when funds allow , But that's in the far future

I got my 320Ci about 3 years ago, and planned to keep that running for the foreseeable future. Then a 330Ci came along, so I diverted my attention to that. I need to find a new home for the 320. Next logical step is an M3. Ideally also in Topaz Blue, but I think I'll stick with the 330 for a lot longer. The engine is in better shape than the 320 and I'm happier to do big work on this car.

Bought my 2000 323i in 10/03 for $29K CDN. She has been our AZ winter car since 2013. Currently has 230000 km (145000 mi)...and just lost reverse gear...broken reverse drum is my guess.
I was planning to keep it a while longer..but if I can't find a good used tranny...I am not sure I will keep it. The cost of a rebuild is about $3500...which is about $1000 more than the car is worth. If I can get a used tranny installed for around $1500 USD, I would keep it...Wanted to have her at 21 years old..so she was legal in all states!
I replaced all the leaky gaskets on her last winter. It was running great until the tranny failure.

Only 117k miles and running like a Swiss watch. PM and maintenance done except for hard pipes and rear bushings which currently show no issue. Hopefully, I'll enjoy for the foreseeable future.

Might get it a stablemate in the next year, but I have no reason to sell. Worth way more to me than what I'd get for it, costs pennies to keep running, and I have a place to keep it. Probably indefinitely.

So true. Got one just like it! Couldn't sell it without a major loss...
