I just got back from a 2 day event at Roebling Road outside Savannah, GA (http://www.roeblingroad.com) where I ran my 2001 325it. I used a set of Carbotech Panther Plus pads up front on the UUC brakes and 235-45/17 Toyo RA-1 R compound tires on stock sport package wheels. Wow! I expected the brakes to perform better than stock because of the sheer size of the rotors but I was absolutely amazed by their performance. I’ve been to Roebling before with race pads (PF 90’s and Hawk Black’s) and usually have to modify my braking points and techniques to accommodate the slight decrease in performance as the brakes get hotter throughout the day. The UUC brakes were fantastic. I did not have to change my braking style at all except to brake LATER as my confidence increased. They stopped as well on my last hot lap of the second day as they did on the first warmup lap of the first day. Throughout the weekend, I abused the brakes further by trail braking and left foot braking, both of which transfer more heat to the caliper and fluid than conventional straight line braking. I got to the point where I was left foot braking in turns 1/2, 5A/B, and 6/7 to make my car rotate at will. Lots of trail braking into 1/2 allowed me to gain several car lengths on most of the cars I was following.
I was concerned about bleeding a multiple piston caliper after I had difficulty bleeding immediately after installation. I bled the brakes the night before the event by the conventional pump/hold/bleed/release method since I did not fell like carrying the pressure bleeder with me and had no problems. For you tool freaks, the UUC brakes need an 11mm wrench for the bleed screws while the stock brakes need a 9mm wrench. I was able to use the usual 3/16” ID clear tubing over both the UUC front and stock rear bleed screws.
I can’t wait for the UUC rear brakes. The car will be an animal in the braking zones.
