H&R Race Springs with Sport Package Shocks
Written by: Tim Jones (http://www.performanceIX.com) April 1, 2001

From the factory the 3 series with the sport package has a low enough stance to make potholes a major concern. The stock springs are a compromise between comfort and sport, they give the car a sporty ride yet are still able to handle bumps and holes in the road with out jarring the passengers. For me this compromise was not acceptable, I avoid roads with bumps and holes and do not want a sporty ride, I want a race or at least a street race ride.

I picked the H&R race for their drop (approximately 1.75 front, .75 rear), quality, and price. The H&R race, unlike other springs have an uneven drop, this is done so that the rear wheel will not be tucked up in the fender, a look that I do not like. This does however make the car lean slightly forward, but it looks good and complements the car's styling.

The real difference is on the corners, the body roll is greatly eliminated as well as any floaty feeling, the car now feels solidly attached to the payment. This solid attachment can become an annoyance or even a problem depending on where you live. If the roads are bad, and you do not like to constantly be checking the road for bumps then H&R race might not be for you. If you are willing to give up some personal comfort for a stiff "race inspired" ride then these are the springs you want.
