No it doesn't need a rebuild. But I was just looking into boring the engine...I replaced all the belts & the pulley...I just want to make my engine new again...that's all....how about boring the engine? What does that consist of & how much would that cost?

The cost would make you consider selling your car and buying an m3, considering the end results.

You would actually be surprised how cheap it is to rebuild these motors. Of course you buy an M3, but have you seen the prices for an M3 water pump? |

I dont know about your engine, but have you seen the pics of the inside of a M54b30 engine? Theres not exactly much room to bore out the cylinders. maybe .25" between the cylinders...

This thread is a complete joke. OP, listen to the advice you're given here. There's absolutely no need to rebuild a BMW engine (or any engine for that matter) that early. My E30 has over 240,000 miles and it's still reliable as the sun and doesn't blow out any burnt oil out the exhaust. Unless your friend put sand in your engine or drained out the oil as an april fool's joke, there's absolutely no need to "bore" or rebuild your engine. That's just plain silly.

I'd bet money the factory cross hatch is still on the bore. The bottom ends are like was said above good for 300k. I just sold a E30 with over 200k that still runs like new. I have 163k on my E46 330 and the only thing I'm thinking about doing to try and restore lost power is a Vanos Oring job. That is where you need to look.

My E46 325 runs like a swiss watch at 135K. I burn 1 quart in 5K. Great oil consumtion for a motor with that kind of miles. How much oil does yours burn??

WTF.
The engine would probably perform worse after a rebuild. We're not talking about a Briggs and Stratton engine that's fun to play around with. The bottom ends on these engines will probably never even show any wear under normal conditions for far longer than most people are willing to drive one. Unless there's an indication that a rebuild is necessary, such as high oil consumption that traceable to the rings, or low oil pressure, rebuilding something just for the sake of rebuilding it is at best a waste of resources.
