MD: Will my car pass state inspection?

I just purchased a 2001 330ci a few days ago, and I absolutely love it. I'm coming from an E36 made in '92, so this is quite a leap for me. However, there are a few minor issues with it that I can fix, I just want to make sure the car will pass inspection without me fixing them. First off, there's a small chip in the windshield. It was epoxied by the previous owner to keep in from spreading, but it is visible. It's smaller than a dime. Second, there are a few very small rust spots on the front right fender along the wheel well. They're very thin surface rust, and cover probably about 2 square inches at the most. It is also having the fast blinker issue with the left side, where it blinks rapidly 3 or 4 times the first time you use it after turning on the car, and then is fine the rest of the time the car is running. Will any of these things prevent it from passing MD state inspection?

Exterior rust issues is not a problem also if signal is working on front & rear of car it does not matter the speed of blinking and if wind sheild crack is not on the driver side that also is not warranted for failing inspection. Main thing for failing inspection would be check engine light on also bald tires and brake pads low. Hope this has been helpful & good luck with inspection I don't thing you should have any problems!

You should be ok. Depending on where that windshield chip is they may fail you though. I've failed for chips smaller than a dime before because the chip was in my line of sight.

Check your tires, brake pads, and rotors, those things can fail you. Ditto on the alignment, tie rod ends and ball joints. If any of those things are loose/bad, you'll fail. Same goes for shocks/struts, if they show excessive wear, you'll get flunked. Basically just give the car a good once over, make sure all the safety related items are functioning correctly, and you should be alright (this includes lights...they all have to be working).

Incidentally, I'm not sure a CEL will cause you to fail MD State safety inspection. It WILL cause you fail emissions, but the guys running the safety inspection probably won't care. They are more concerned with vehicle control (ie the ability to drive straight, turn and stop properly) than if the car is running perfect. Rust isn't usually an issue in MD unless there is so much of it that it poses some kind of saftey issue.

From what you described though I'd guess you'll be ok. Only way to know for sure is to take it in and find out. Fix whatever it fails for, and go back to the same place that looked at it the first time. Different guys like to pick on different things from that inspection sheet, so make sure you keep going back to the same place or you might find yourself fixing more than you need to.

Can you take a picture of the windshield damage? Maybe that will make it easier to tell if it will fail or not.

I wouldn't bother with that. They don't charge you to re-inspect the car, so I'd go in, see if it fails, and if you have to replace the windshield, then do it. No point in worrying about it really, it'll either pass or it won't, if it's already had someone attempt to fix it then you can't do much about it. Take her in and let us know what happens.

If the car is lowered you will fail.
If you have non-factory window tint you will fail.

Sorry I haven't replied until now, forgot to set email subscription on this thread

Took it to Chesapeake Exxon in Annapolis yesterday, passed with flying colors. Car is now fully registered, and is sporting its proper NCCBMWCCA Maryland organizational tags

Thanks for everyone's feedback!
