Hi M-THR33 and welcome to E46Fanatics. In your car you have a .75 tweeter and a 2.5" midrange in next to the door handle in the front door. You also have a 6.25", with a three-bolt mounting configuration, mid-bass in lower portion of your door. In the rear panel you have another 2.5" midrange, and another 6.25" in the rear deck. With the HK system in your car you will also have two 6"x9" subs in the rear deck.

As for installing a coaxial speaker (integrated tweeter and mid-bass) you can't easily do that with your car or many modern BMW's. The reason for this is that your factory amplifier has a separate channel for each individual speaker, and each of those channels will only play the certain frequencies that speaker was meant to play. So, if you were to install a coaxial 6.5" in the factory mid-bass location you would need to make a custom bracket to make it fit in the factory location. On top of this it would only play 400 hz and below and no sound above that point will play. On top of this the resistance and efficiency would not match your factory amplifier so the sound would be very dim.

We offer a Stage 1 speaker upgrade in your car, which is completely plug and play with your oem harnesses and mounting locations. The Stage 1 upgrade is designed to work perfectly with your factory amplifier and at the same time improve the clarity and mid-bass response significantly. This package replaces every speaker in your system except for the 6x9 subs. This upgrade will replace tweeter and mid-bass with speakers built by Rainbow to our specs, and will replace your mid-range with our own 2.5" upgrade.
Here's a direct link to the Stage 1 for your car.

If you are price conscious then you might want to consider upgrading the mid-range and tweeter and wait to replace the mid-bass. This will greatly improve the upper frequency response of the audio system.
Here's a direct link.

Almost all, about 99%, of our customers audio needs are satisfied with our Stage 1 speaker upgrade, so can be confident in the quality of our product. To alleviate any worries, all of our products come with a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. That way if you install our speakers and you're not satisfied for any reason then you can return them for a full refund.
Hope this helps you out, but if you have any other questions feel free to PM/email me.
