Personalized plates on leased car

How can you get a personalized license plate for a leased car in california? DMV says u need to fill out a reg256 form and have the lessor sign it, but which section? Does anyone know? Thanks so much!

hmm..i think its possible. when i was at the dmv one time, renewing my plate because it was damaged in the mail. i asked the lady if it was too late to get a personalized one. she said you can get thos anytime, because you actually own that plate if you get it personalized. so judging from that, i think you can...

you can the plate anytime.........but since it's a leased car, u have to have the leasing company give you a number or have dealership sign paper. Some kinda bs.......it's possible, just not at e-z as if you owned car. Then u can literally do everything online.

black 330ci yeah but were your cars leased or not. The main part of the question and the fact is that CA requires a release by the leasing company for personalized plates. If the car is a purchase and not a lease whether you own outright or not is a five minute process online. But not for leased cars.

in ontario you own the plates whether its leased or not. so when you return the car you keep your plates since you paid $20 for generic plates and $300 for custom ones
