car shakes after revving engine in park

as the title states

The car has been in the garage now for a couple of weeks.
I started the car up and left it running for about 3-4 mins
when i came back i revved the engine while it was still in park.
when the revs would start to drop the engine/car would shake.

is this normal?

if it was only once it could have still been warming up, my car usually takes 5-10mins to fully warm up just being off 10 hours.

If it keeps shaking, it could be your motor mounts are going. or another engine issue.

what about a misfire? car is running rich when you warm up.
only a fault code check could tell you if that happened.

if engine mounts were broken, then the entire car would vibrate at idle as well. how high did you rev the engine for reference.

it happens once in a while. always on a cold start. instead of letting it sit and warm up, i just take off (gently) and let it warm up that way. doesnt happen to me anymore.

i never figured out why it happened tho.

i think i tripped out

i let the car warm up for about 10 mins

this time nothing happened
it must have been due to a cold start
the temperature in vancouver the last few days has been pretty cold too

thanks for everyone's input

Did you get your coil packs changed with the recall several months back? My car started shaking while in park when I started it, took it in, found out BMW NA issued a recall on on 99-05 3-series on faulty coils, which causes misfires.

Check with your local dealer.

wait a second: does the rpm kinda dip below the normal idle of 700? sometimes the car when started when its cold and after a while, i notice the RPM needle dip down below 500, and this is after i reved it. feels like, if your car is a stick, that you have a noticable amount of vibration from the engine.

is this what your experiencing.

yeah mine dips when its cold i think all the manual trans do it if it was just that once i wouldnt be to worried about it just cold start/motor has sat for a while type of thing if it begins to happen all the time thats when you should worry

dudes, this is a very well known and documented problem for the e46. search 'cold idle' or 'cold start' in the general forum and you should see well over 100 threads covering this.

^ (that is, if i'm understanding the OP correctly)

Happens with my car on real cold mornings and if i havent started it in a few days, as soon as i start it i feel the vibrations through the steering wheel, it sounds kind of irregular at first but sorts its self out..

I think its a bmw trait as a lot of people notice it.

coils are a issue yes. but it isn't always the case. the engine lifters is my guess as youve mentioned the vehicle had sat around for "x" amount of time.
