Do cops ever show up to traffic court???

So i was in traffic court yesterday and i noticed that case after case was getting dismissed because the ticketing police officer did not show up. So i guess everyone who gets a ticket should at least go to court to fight it... hehehhe... i personally just used ticket assassin to fight for one of mine... still waiting for the results...

my brother got a ticket for picking up his phone. he had to remove his seatbelt while waiting at a traffic light to get to his phone. cop saw it and gave him a ticket for the cell and for the seatbelt. bro went to court and the judge asked the cop for proof. there was none. case dismissed.

but this has nothing to do with a cops attendance...

An officers word is basically gold in courts of law. I have never heard of a judge asking for "proof" from an officer.

Mine didn't show up yesterday. The only time they have shown up for me is when I have paid someone to be there.

bimmer, what do you mean you're having ticket assasin fight yours? as far as california, cops get paid for their time in the courts but if you fight your ticket through the mail, they don't get paid for their time in writing their argument. also with mail, if you are found guilty, you can have a whole new trial, trial de novo i believe

I don't write traffic tickets that often, but when I do, I will be at court.

hey truimph...what do you mean by fighting the ticket through the mail? I thought you had to show up to the court hearing regardless if you plead non-guilty through mail.

In California, you have the right to enter your plea by mail and request a trial by declaration (i.e. you write a letter stating your case and mail it in), it just isn't well advertised. If you lose, you can request another trial where you and the cop show up to court. Check out www.ticketassassin.com.

Here in Florida, the cops get paid overtime wages for court attendance...to encourage them to show up.

What are the odds of the cop not responding when you fight it through the mail in Ca? In my lifetime, I've gotten 4 tickets that I went to court over and the cop didnt show up 2 out of those 4 times.

My Ride: a car
One thing to remember is not to make yourself memorable to the cop when he/she writes you a ticket. If you were a jerk to them, they will definitely show up.

i'm not sure because i've never gotten a ticket, but after the gf got the red light ticket in my car, i started researching all this crap and it was saying that cops incenvtives are obviously lower with the trial by mail because they are not paid to write their case out in comparison to going to court and getting paid
