illinois front license plate law.. do you need one?

i'm moving for ny to chicago in a few weeks.

does illinois law require license plates up in the front? i went down there a few weeks ago to look for apartments, and saw a few cars without plates in the front. wondering if that's legal.

thanks. and looking forward to joining in on bimmer meets out in chicago. i'll be taking my wife and 330ci there.

The Chicago police won't stop you for a front plate, but if you're stopped for something else and they notice it, expect a ticket. If you park your car on the street (even at a meter), the dept. of revenue will ticket you for certain. It's $25 a hit. I just got the plates for my 325i yesterday, I'm still on temporary tags, but I had a Rolls-Royce without a front plate and it was ticketed relentlessly. Ditto for my Porsches (911, 928, 944), which is when I finally caved and put them on.

Welkommen to Chicago You should come check us out at www.euroteknik.com it's pretty much owned by a bunch of guys and some gals around the age of 20-40 year olds. so we don't have too many little kids in our club.

Yes, you can get ticketed for front tints and no front license plates

Both offences above you don't get pulled over for, but if you do get pulled over for speeding, you also get a ticket for those two.

If you park on the streets, the city cops usually patrol the streets handing out tickets to parked cars for tint, no front license plates, no city sticker, expired license plates, For Sale signs on your car window....etc pretty much anything illegal on your car.

No front plates is a $60 ticket. If you get the $25 ticket means the cop don't know the ticket code rule (rookie cop)
