Nurburgring Times for E39 M5 and E46 M3

Hello Group,

I know that all of you are experts on getting BMW info, so here's what I'm looking for, Nurburgring times for E39 M5 and E46 M3, but also references to where they were gathered from, one of my friends is operating under the illusion that the M5 is faster on a road course than the M3 (of course I'm aware that you could create a road course where the M5 would win, but that isn't the point :-))

Thanks,
Adam

The stock E39 M5's best time was done in 1998 by BMW test drivers, and it's 8 minutes 20 seconds on the Nordschleife. The E46 M3 turned a time of 8:22 on the same track in 2000, also BMW test-driven. E46 M3 CSL, though, ran it in around 7:52. Shows you how much of a difference R-compounds (the CSL comes with Michelin Pilot Sport Cups) make. The new E60 M5's Nordschleife time is 8 minutes flat.

Actually, it's 7:55 to be exact. This is the actual test number. They couldn't give it officially because the car still has problems with its ECU

Heh, ~8 minutes or so for a luxury passenger sedan...

Do looks even matter at that point?

My best time in an E46 M3 was a low 7:50...though I was playing PGR2 on my X-Box at the time

I've gotten about a 7:45, can't remember what I got with the CSL. I'll have to try it on Monday when I'm off of work. Lowest I've ever gotten is a 6:32 with a TVR.
