if you have manual seats then you have 6 pin. If you have powerseats with memory you have 12 pin.

Man, bunch of guesses here. Maybe someone w/the strong knowledge should step up and put an end to this. No offense to all those on here but there is no end to this.

Like it has been mentioned. There is no certain way to determine it without actually taking the door panel off and checking.

And the whole thing about 2000s being only 6 pin is BS... my 2000 is 12 pin.

The general rule of thumb is that if you have memory seat then you have 12 pin...if not, 6 pin.

Although that rule holds true most of the time there have been several cases where that doesnt hold true.

Also, most facelifts are ribbon connectors, but there have also been a few cases in earlier models where they have had 6/12 pin connectors...

If you want to be CERTAIN, you have to take the panel off. But chances are...the general test will work.

Read my posts. Look at the pictures I have taken. I am right, I have done this myself and have had both types of mirrors and switches! The problem with that one picture somone posted of the 12PIN connector, is that it's the Mirror connector, not the connector to the switch. The switch will not have a double stacked one row connector for it. The Mirror would when it's 12PIN. I have posted pictures of the 12PIN and the 6PIN switches. I have had them in my hand and looked at them, and took pictures to help people. Look at my pictures I posted in the thread, they show the different switches.

Hate to bump an old thread, but can someone identify this for me?

I think it's a 12pin connector, but I'm not 100% sure.

I just took mine off a minute ago and it looked exactly like that. I'm pretty sure we have 12 pin connectors

also I have a facelift and someone said that most facelifts have ribbon connectors...is that only for the facelift coupes or does that apply for the sedan too? because I'm almost positive I have a 12 pin not a ribbon connector

I will just add my car's info to this thread...

I have a '01 prefacelift 325iA sedan with memory powerseats. The stock mirrors are also with memory and the connection in the mirror is a 12 PIN plug

The mirror control switch is the same like dbworld4k posted.

I think the ribbon connection comes after some month/year (Like after xx/2003 ? ). Early facelifts have the normal cable connection...

Well mine isn't an early facelift I hope I have 12 pin, I'll probably check soon. Who makes m3 rep mirrors for cars with ribbon connectors? or do you have to do a conversion? sorry I'm a mirror noob

Since mine is an uber 330, I bet mine is a 12pin. Please don't dispute, I already checked.
