Best brand of window tint?

Just got back from getting two estimates on tinting my car. One shop quoted $240 for all six sides windows (it's a sedan) plus the rear window, while the other said $250 for the same seven windows. Okay, so now that I've got an idea of what I might be paying. My next concern is there one brand of window tint better than others ... both of these shops I stopped by use Madico brand tint. While I've heard alot of good things about the Madico brand, I thought I'd ask if anyone has had any problems with that tint?

From what i know and heard about Huper Optik ceramic tint it is one of the top. It provides good heat resistant, does not interfer with NAV, but it's not cheap either. Here is the link on them http://www.huperoptikusa.com/products_ceramic.cfm
Well I wouldn't say that cost is no object. But I don't mind paying alittle extra for a better tint.

Since you brought up the fact of ceramic tint ... is there a base tint that I should be looking for? Ceramic, Metallic or Non-metallic?? What are the benefits of each type of base???

Madico Onyx Tint....

I've had mine since 10/05/01 and honestly it still looks like the day I had it installed.

Madico will warrant this film as long as you own your vehicle; against cracking, crazing, or demetalizing due to discernible defects in maufacturing. If found to be defective, Madico will have the film replaced at no cost to you for film and labor. :)

So far so good and I'd definately use it again and well worth the price for the quality

Rory, isn't it? (sorry if I'm wrong). This is Dave.

You met me up at Valley Motorwerks last year ... I'm also the guy who's car Kevin did a LeatherZ gauge install a month or two ago. You also gave me a hard time about being lost and following you at Bimmerfest :lmao: .

Who did your install? and are you completely happy with their work?? One of the shops I visited claims to have over 15 years of experience (I do think I remember seeing that shop there for the longest) so I believe he'll do a great job, but I figure I'd ask any Fanatic about there shop (especially if your within an hours drive away).

Dave, right on..damnnn small world isn't it.

The shop I went to up here (Tintco in Orangevale) has also been in business for quite some time. They do alot of high end cars and checked out their work on several different occasions. Very happy with the work, but the guy who did mine (said to be the best by many) has left after finishing his schooling. So I'm not familiar with their work now.

As long as your shop has been in business for quite a few years, I'd think they know what they're doing. Have you had an opportuneity to check out some of their work?

I'd say you're also getting a great deal for (6) windows and the rear. I paid $275.00 alone for my coupe's (2) rear sides and the rear window only. :yikes: But I was satisfied with their work and the quality of the film.

Good luck with the tint and maybe I'll see ya at the Stanford (or place to be named) Meet/Drive on 5/21. :)

Rory,

If the guy who did your car isn't there any longer (I remember your tint job looked great), then I just assume to not have them do it (wouldn't wanna take my chances with just anyone).

I just got off the phone with my friend who had his M3 tinted at Auto Mall Tint Specialist in Fremont. He highly recommends them! They use Huper Optik, V-Kool, SunTek OP and SunTek HP window tints. Since I've gotten two other Fanatics that mentioned Huper Optik I might just go that way.

Won't be able to make the 5/21 meet! I'm riding up to Sear Point (I refuse to call it Infineon Raceway) to watch the AMA motorcycle races. Have fun though and I hope to catch up to you again soon.

Dave

T3stman and SilverStreakTeg,

Thanks for bring up Huper Optik tint. Reading off of the Auto Mall Tint Specialist website ... it does sound like this tint is top of the line stuff.

Wow, just got a reply for an estimate on tinting my car all around with Huper Optik tint. Would you believe $550 ... this stuff is some expensive tint. Can anybody who's tinted their car with this stuff tell me if that's too much. Were talking about a sedan for all 6 side windows and the rear window too.

HuperOptik

the installer originally charged me 450 for a 4 door sedan, 35% all around no windshield. i talked it down to 350. it was the first time he was installing this type of film (huperOptik). he said it was a pain to install cause its thicker (cannot be machine cut) than every other type and takes longer to dry. I will post pics after the installer sends to me

S3, noticed you're from the Bay./ Are there any good tint installers near the San francisco or peninsula area...?
Yep ... everyone here seems to claim that the Auto Mall Tint Specialist is the bomb (they use to be known as Auto Mall Tint Factory). Sidney is said to have over 17 years experience. That's where I got my Huper quote from ...
