E46 2001 Coupe steering wheel telephone controls

On my e46 2001 325Ci I have a couple of buttons on the steering wheel that I believe relate to the installed (Nokia) car phone kit.

One has R/T written on it and one has what looks like a speech symbol

Could someone please explain how these work to me ?

I activated the Blue Tooth function on my phone and my phone found my car, I then plugged in my pass code and my phone and car were paired up. To use the Blue Tooth speaker system in my car with my phone you hit the R/T to switch to telephone then scroll through your address book and hit the little face button just below the R/T button and your phone will dial through the speaker system and you will be able to talk hands free. I hope that helped with your question, if you need more help you can PM me.

R/T means "radio/telephone" - so pressing it toggles between the two functions of your system. and the talking button is pressed quickly to redial, and held for a second to receive a voice command. both buttons are functionless without the bmw phone system or the ULF bluetooth system.

Thanks guys. It seems that my steering wheel controls probably aren't connected to the (professionally installed, but Nokia, not BMW cradle). Pressing R/T or the voice button does nothing, neither does the steering volume control work on the phone.

There must be some degree of integration with the stereo because when the phone rings or I activate the phone in the cradle using it's keypad the stereo mutes, and comes on again when the call completes.

As for bluetooth, I know there's a retrofit option available, but at over £1000 from BMW I think I can live with reaching a few inches further to the phone cradle.
After all, if I'm gonna spend an extra £1000 on the car it's gonna get mv or mv2 wheels or a leather interior!

A few issues.

Greetings to all, I am new to the forum but I have a xouple of issues to sort out to fully enjoy my car especially as winter is on it's way.. BRRRR!

My cabin blower when turned all the way up barely blows out anything. Have looked up problem maybe the final stage resistor (hedgehog)?.

And when travelling at 70mph I get wind noise? (Rubber seals perishing)?

Also central locking isn't working?.

Many Thanks friends.

I would scream at you to search, but you re-opened a closed for 14 years thread, so you apparently did search.

Nothing you asked relates to the topic of the dead thread you re-opened.

Every statement you make is a question due to your selection of a ? to end it with.

The FSR is not the problem _if_ the fan speed actually changes. If the fan only blows on high, then the FSR is the usual suspect. If your fan speed changes but the flow is low, then replace the cabin air filter. Open the hood (bonnet) and at the base of the windshield, open the plastic grille and replace the filter inside.

The other items on your list require more information on your symptoms.

Nice one @jdstrictland will do the filter check. And as for the rubber seals I can describe it as when travelling at roughly 70 mph it's like the window is slightly open even though I know it's fully closed ( thought about getting wind deflectors but don't want to ruin the sleek look of the bmw itself. Again thanks for the reply and didn't mean to open up a 14 yr old thread!!!

So went to car to check cabin air filter and warmed up engine. Turned fan up all the way and nothing! Tried sitcom and nothing also I will try the hedgehog fix next. But if anyone knows the root cause I'd be very grateful.after that problem it's a major service and central locking next. Cannot wait. Lovin the car pics soon to follow

Wow! Just under 9 years actually rather than 14 (my post was Jan 2006, not 2000). That came as a bit of a shock, and took me back to one of my very first posts on this board. Much to reminisce on my original e46 325ci (hence my name). Yep, was a long time ago.

Nice to think people still find the old topics we posted back then useful, even if the current question was a little off-topic.

Finding root cause

Hi to all,

I previously said my cabin heater wasn't working so tried to find root cause.
I have put middle dial to hot ad heat does come through the vents but only when I'm driving! So before I put the car in I just wanted confirmation that it is the actual ventilation motor itself that needs changing.

Thanks again I can't stop looking at my car ;-) lovin it more pics to follow have a great w/end all.
