SAP removal

I have been searching for the last couple days and Have not found what I am looking for.

Sense I have headers on my car the SAP is pointless and The EGR valve that is connected to the block broke, where the two nuts going into the block broke in half. I meant to take pictures but my camera would not focus right.

I was wondering if I can have a machine shop fabricate a block off plate? I already unplugged the SAP it was making some pretty loud noises. And throwing up codes.

The codes that came up: 245 secondary air pump system low flow, 246 secondary air injection system too low flow, 228 o2 bank 2 control deviation, 227 o2 bank 1 deviation

When I removed the SAP I noticed that the a tube rotted so I replaced it.

O2 codes I think are because of the headers. Correct me if I am wrong on that.

Also the oil pressure line that feeds the variable cam timing system is leaking. They also said that the oil pan is leaking but when I was under there did not seem like it was and the leak was coming from the oil filter housing gasket and the oil line.

Thanks

The man who did the DIY also sells the SIM already complete, no need to make your own BTW.

If you do code your car to a Euro software you wont need the sim. Its up to you if you want to make a sim or Euro tune it. because if you do Euro tune it the sim becomes useless.

You're very lucky that you have no smog testing in your area. I'm actually jealous, soooo much potential .....

REMOVING any component of the factory emissions system is tampering. I have had this discussion before, I don't wish to start another whole war :). I was just informing the OP he can make his own decisions of what he wants to do once he has the facts :)

Tampering means to modify, remove, render inoperative, cause to be removed, or make less
operative any air pollution emission control device or element of design installed on a motor
vehicle or motor vehicle engine which results in an increase in emissions beyond established
federal motor vehicle standards. Tampering includes, but is not limited to, any of the
following:
(a) Removing or rendering inoperative such devices as catalytic converter, air pump, or
EGR valve,

(b) Disconnecting or plugging vacuum lines or electrical or mechanical portions of the
pollution control system such as electrical solenoids or vacuum-activated valves,
(c) Modifying a motor vehicle’s emission control design to other than the manufacturer’s
specifications,
(d) Installing any replacement part that is not equivalent in design and function to the part
that was originally on the motor vehicle,
(e) Adding a part on a motor vehicle that does not meet the manufacturer’s specifications,
such as installation of dual carburetors to replace a single carburetor, or installing a
dual exhaust prior to the catalytic converter on a vehicle that was manufactured as
single exhaust only,

I posted relvant info to the procces thats all. I wanted anyone searching to know that while it works its a federal offense. That is relevant if you dont care thats fine. We all make our own choices in life. I only copy and pasted it as someone said there was no law. I provided proof there was.

My intent was to make one post and leave it be.

As for the troll comment I post in many topics offering help and advise as well.

Epa stuff was irrelevant to what my original thread was about. I am not looking to follow the rules within epa guide lines. My car runs better with out the SAP. I was so supprised by how much nicer it ran.

And plus I am already running headers so there's another epa violation.

I have a serious question. If you do remove the smog items, and in the next few months Oregon enacts an emissions testing program, what will you do? We went for years without any testing, and then one day, the State Legislature passes a law, and so does the Metropolitan Government. Bang! We instantly have an emissions inspection, including a visual inspection. They plug into your ALDL connector, and read all the info. It is really easy to fail the inspection. Just a little warning.

If EU3 firmware was flashed then they (SMOG tester) will see nothing and a vehicle will pass the inspection. At least in MD, where they test emission every 2 years by connecting their stuff into OBD-II port it will pass with EU3 with no problem.

Again: you don't need to reflash DME after manual trans conversion, period. All what you need is something like PASoft to recode DME, that is it. The fact that you did it (if you did) says nothing: you might reflash just for fun or whatever reason. But not for manual transmission conversion.

I can say from experience, it isnt just the DME that retains the coding about the car being auto or manual. Off the top of my head there are like 13 modules attached to the CANbus and most of them know the car is auto or manual

I think some of the difficulty we experienced with mine even after being able to eliminate the EGS/TCU was the ABS module reporting the missing trans

My car still occassionally reports a bad/low/ whatever signal for a secondary hydralic pump...meaning the car is looking for the trans hydralic pump

STU, you are absolutely right about the other modules. In fact I can post every single string of code on all of the modules and highlight were the trans type is referenced.

What we are arguing is that the DME software version doesn't need to be reflashed or touched at all.

What I think Seth is talking about in regards with VO, ZCS is re-coding all the trans type aware modules to the manual trans and where we are all getting confused is that the DME doesn't need to be reflashed.

Think of it this way. iirc the GM5 module tells the car wether the car is equiped with a rain sensor. say you disconnect the rain sensor. that module will throw a code until it is coded out.

same with the trans type aware modules. Since trans type is a major issue if it is not found it will throw a CEL.

Addititionally in other words Seth is doing the same thing when re-flashing the DME as we are able to do through NCSexpert by setting the getrieb type to manual on the DME and on all the modules!

That is the only Seth is able to successfully convert to manual or auto. But it is not the ONLY way.

Yeah, and that 10 years BMW tech was talking about computer for MANUAL transmission, right.... :pimpin:
I personally know people who've done the swap and CODED DME, not reflashed. Ok, let do the following. Taking the same 2001 325i as above - tell me the part numbers for Auto and Manual transmission firmwares for DME (US, Euro - doesn't matter).

PS. And believe me, I saw mechanics with a lot of years of experience who have absolutely no clue how stuff works. They just know some patterns what *should* be done in this and that case w/o understanding what is it for.
