Yesterday I noticed a slight front end knocking/clunk while taking low speed turns or going over some bumps. Pretty standard I thought, must be swaybar end links or strut mounts. Jacked the car up and had a good look around, all the jointed components are good: swaybar end links, control arm bushings/bearings (recently replaced), CV boots, tie rods (recently replaced). Tried to check for blown struts but they seemed to bounce back well after compression (but unsure of the norm) and strut mounts didn't seem loss at all after tugging at them a good deal (only way I saw to test them out).

This evening I did a ton of driving in the lion's den (aka Washington DC) and the knocking became increasingly frequent, especially when coming to a stop from 15-35 mph, when a very noticeably knock would come from what seemed like the driver-side front fender well. Also noticed my alignment getting worse and worse as the driving continued.

At interstate speeds going home, left front wheel would start shaking pretty violently after hitting bumps...braking would stop it and it would drive fine until the next big bump...veryyyy scary on the interstate. On the last leg of the trip, ABS + brake + ASC lights went off, signaling failure of the ABS system.

I'm thinking a strut mount gone horribly wrong, but I'd like input from others before I put money into the wrong part.

P.S. I'll probably either do springs + struts + mounts + alignment + pray for mercy from this money-eating monster OR struts + alignment + cut my losses...maybe get a porsche boxster

I've wanted to do an alcantara m3 wheel transplant into my 330 for... basically as long as I've had it.

I have multifunction controls on my sport wheel. I'm buying a blank wheel, meaning it DOES NOT have:
...Airbag (still got my old one)
...Lower trim (still hunting, trying to avoid CF)
...multifunction controls
...Wires...

My question to anyone that's done it before:

Will the wiring I have in my sport wheel cover all the bases, or is there a portion of the wiring that stays on the wheel? or :thumbdwn:?

'Trying to avoid all the disassembly and then finding that I'm missing 3 inches of wire and a top secret connector. :ben:

Thanks in advance for the help!

Have a '00 323ci coupe, 100k mi. 2nd owner since 9/02.

Last week, after driving about a quarter mile, the speedometer and tach needles dropped to the bottom of the instrument, and a buzzing noise started from the instrument area. The noise continued with the ignition key off. I pulled the #43 5 amp fuse to stop the buzzing noise. This also disabled the fuel gauge, indicator lights, odometer, etc on the cluster. Later determined that the "buzzing" was the speedometer needle vibrating at the 0 position.

Today, my local Indy BMW tech checked connections, ground, etc, and determined that the instrument cluster must be replaced, with a new unit, $833 cluster cost. Says a used unit cannot be re-programmed. Told him to order it. Will take 3-4 days to arrive.

Anyone with similar experience ? Does the reprogrammng restore my odometer value ? I searched the forums, and found 1 with similar symptoms, but was caused by adding some aftermarket xenons, I believe.

Thanks,

Kevin

Yes they are in great shape, a few places of chipped paint and some curb rash from the previous owner, but overall in nice condition. Check my feedback on svtperformance.com or Ebay under this same user name, it speaks for itself. Would prefer a local pickup, I am 2.5 hours from St. Louis, 4 from Atlanta, 6 from Chicago, 1.5 from Nashville and 3 from Memphis, so centrally located here in the southeast.

Tires are stock Potenzas and have 60% tread. TPMS and BMW center caps are included.

$950 cash, paypal adds 3.2%. Shipping is possible but buyer covers.
These will be off by next weekend and ready to rock.
